Hercules Productions has a vision to create new fresh and inventive work. The key to our projects is bringing together inexperienced and experienced artists to work together in a professional arts environment. All these artists are from diverse communities in Manchester to create real dialogue between people about the issues they face in the inner city. We seek to raise the profile of cultural diversity in the North West through raw new work that challenges the social boundaries, takes risks and breaks new ground in performance.
We run drama and music based projects with young underprivileged people who do not have many opportunities to work within the visual arts. We work with young people on devising and creating new theatre and run workshops about issues that are affecting their lives and surroundings.
Hercules Productions offers hard-hitting, original and honest theatre that is produced to a high standard, and opens the eyes of audiences. It incorporates both multi-media and new and vibrant music, creating a new era in theatre. It combines music and theatre in a new and adventurous way that is a challenging and exciting experience for participants and audiences.
The Artistic Director, Marcus Hercules, is a professional actor who has worked in theatre and performed in over ten different television productions. He has worked extensively across the UK with various arts organisations and communities on initiatives that are designed to get young people involved in theatre. To date we have produced several plays: Different Perspectives and Space Dread which were performed at The Contact Theatre.
Marcus Hercules is an enthusiastic Actor, Director, Writer and workshop leader with professional experience of theatre, television and film. As an actor Marcus has performed for Contact Theatre, Talawa, the Tricycle, Nottingham Arts, Manchester Library Theatre, the Lowry and Reading theatres. TV credits include Brookside, Holby City, Casualty and the Bill. He has worked with Will Powers and also with Jatinder Verma, (Artistic Director of Tara Arts) on his production of ‘Journey to the West’. Following this he directed Contact Young Actors Company in ‘Minority Report’ a new play by Leah Chillery. He then wrote the script for ‘Children of a Revolution’; ‘Carry Mi Acke’ and his one person show ‘Different Perspectives’.
